FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

(Croton Falls, NY): A few hours ago, Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 707, legislation that will prohibit concealed weapons on college campuses and in K-12 buildings unless school officials grant permission or the carrier is retired law enforcement.

The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus issued the following statement in connection with the signing of SB 707.

“The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus thanks Governor Brown for his courage in standing up to the gun lobby, but more importantly for recognizing that our educational institutions must be safe havens for learning and preparing people for bright futures.

Many groups worked hard to move this legislation forward, including, but not limited to our colleagues at the California Chapters of the Brady Campaign, the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Women Against Gun Violence, and a host of other gun violence prevention groups, law enforcement, education groups and many others.

Let’s commit to making today’s victory the beginning of our shared mission of holding our elected officials (local, state and federal) responsible for identifying and passing sound polices that will reduce gun violence in our nation.   The days of the gun lobby owning this debate are waning, so let’s keep pushing forward together.”
