(New York, NY) –  Higher Education leaders from Florida and three national law firms will be honored tonight (Wednesday, March 9th) by The Campaign to Keep Guns off Campus during the organization’s Spring Benefit to be held at Tavern on the Green in Manhattan from 6pm to 8pm.  The higher education leaders, Michael Brawer of the Association of Florida Colleges and Jennifer Proffitt of United Faculty of Florida, played an important role in defeating guns on campus during the last two legislative sessions in Florida.   The national law firms of Covington & Burling, Hogan Lovells, and White & Case, are serving as pro bono counsel to The Campaign to Keep Guns off Campus’ newly launched Legal Action Project and are each working on a variety of legal issues ranging from keeping guns off campuses, out of airports, and out of polling places.

“Tonight we celebrate the national work of The Campaign to Keep Guns off Campus, pay tribute to two key Florida higher education leaders, and acknowledge the new partnerships we have forged with the national law firms of Covington & Burling, Hogan Lovells and White & Case,”  Andy Pelosi, executive director of The Campaign to Keep Guns off Campus remarked, “We also resolve to remain committed to fighting for safe campus communities across the country. That means campuses that do not permit concealed firearms, as we believe these guns are inappropriate and dangerous in an educational setting.
