The Georgia Campaign To Keep Guns Off Campus Remembers and Acts on

February 26, 2013

 

 

WHAT:     Marking the one year anniversary of the shooting death of 17 year-old

                 Trayvon Martin, on Tuesday, February 26th, The Campaign To Keep Guns

                 Off Campus will join the InterCollegiate Action Network (iCAN), State 

                 Senator’s Vincent Fort and Nan Orrock, the NAACP Georgia State

                 Conference, students, teachers, clergy and community groups at the State

                 Capitol to rally for justice and an end to gun violence in Georgia. 

 

WHEN:     Tuesday, February 26th, 5:00pm

 

WHERE:   Steps of Georgia State Capitol

 

WHY:        Titled Remember & Act, the event will highlight current legislation before the

                  Georgia General Assembly intended to allow guns in K-12 schools and

                  on university and colleges campuses, both public and private.

The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus is urging educational institutions across the country to band together to oppose the gun lobby’s agenda to push guns onto campuses by signing a resolution that opposes legislation allowing students or teachers to carry concealed handguns. The listof schools signing the resolution will be provided to lawmakers as a way of showing the educational community’s opposition to such legislation.As of February 25, 2013, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and over 355 individual colleges and universities in 40 states have signed the resolution.
